My husband, Mike, and I had a Covid wedding and for our first dance we got in character and performed the Xbox Just Dance version of Despacito. Picture by Melissa Eam.

Hello, my name is Vickie Girolami. Welcome to middleagedteen, and my recipes for living and happiness. It’s a website about how I got to where I am and what worked for me. Why middleagedteen? It’s been my personal motto since I hit…well…middle-age and began as just a mantra to keep me going but evolved into so much more. The middleagedteen perspective is how I balance being an adult while keeping the adventurous teen alive in me. It’s my avatar name when I play X-Box – see my wedding dance picture and it’s the yahoo in me losing my voice at concerts. Most important, it’s the teen-like vision of hope that kept me going while I raised and moved my family several times then found the courage to move on from a marriage I couldn’t get to work.

middleagedteen inc. is a Canadian company that promotes Canadian companies, products, and services as well as others from around the globe. Some of these result in a commission for things that “work for me” and are sold through links on this website. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. middleagedteen is also a reminder to swallow my pride, recognizing I can’t do it all myself. I don’t know what shape I’d be in without the help and support of my husband, family, friends, and bosses; they all helped me get through a divorce and four surgeries after cancer. middleagedteen is my reminder to either lighten up or act my age when acting like a child, it’s an attitude, a lifestyle, and it’s all about how to make the most out of life.

The middleagedteen attitude is embracing that you can dream or do almost anything at any age, an example I have always set for my children. At a young age I learnt how impressionable my own parents’ actions were on me, so my children grew up watching me set the example. My youngest was 16 years old the first time she heard me swear! More important, they saw me taking courses, working out daily, doing hours of volunteer work, home renovations, landscaping, and entertaining. They witnessed my commitment over seven years training in martial arts and technical writing. My children may not remember all of it but I know I made an impression because they are a lot like how I wanted to be and are my greatest achievement. Watch for the post on what my kids say were my best parenting tactics…and my worst.

Like everything in life there’s a dark side, and as a middleagedteen I own mine. I’m no angel, and at times have been naughty and nasty, but I’m totally good with the person I’ve become. I wouldn’t be the same without a past. My life coach training helped me recognize how important it is to embrace our “dirt” and what makes the difference is how we handle it. One of my mottos is “No guilt, No regret!”  So I learn from my mistakes, am empathetic, I’ve got really good at apologizing, and I have a plan for helping others by giving back.

middleagedteen.com is a compilation of what’s worked for me and, sometimes just as important, what hasn’t. It’s my “recipes for living and happiness” because there is so much more to life than just living. I will share my experiences:  the good, the bad, the ugly, the mundane, the ridiculous, the exciting, and everything in between. I hope you will find camaraderie, be inspired, entertained, and get some use from my blog. If nothing else, I hope you will be comforted that you aren’t alone in life’s mayhem. Since this is all based on my personal experiences, you should always get professional advice, for example on legalities, financial, and health decisions – especially regarding medications, nutrition, and beginning a physical exercise program.

You may be wondering how middleagedteen is funded? There is some advertising but mostly it’s through affiliate marketing. What this means is I’ll share what I’ve enjoyed, found handy, useful, irreplaceable, and some I wouldn’t touch again…that would be a doesn’t work for me situation. When you make a purchase through a link or code I share for a product or service I make a commission that doesn’t affect your purchase price…a girl’s gotta survive right!!!

As well, I see myself as kind of a digital busker. I hope you find my content useful and will share it. All the content (writing, pictures, video etc.) are all my own unless identified otherwise and you are welcome to quote or copy “my” work” as long as it’s cited back to me, Vickie Girolami, and this website, middleagedteen.com. If you’re quoting someone else’s work found on this website you need to abide by their citation terms and ask for permission yourself.

middleagedteen is a work in progress. It gives me hope that I still have lots of time to do all that I want in life but a subtle reminder to giddy-up. middleagedteen.com is a new start for me, ending a 35 year dream to pursue a writing career, what I call the end of “the great procrastination”, see my first blog,  procrastination or perseverance? YOU choose! Check out my about me page if you want more background…about me!

There are lots of definitions of middle-age but it covers about a 30 year span. A lot happens in that time and it goes really fast so make the most of it. For that matter make the most of whatever stage of life you’re in. I have, and that’s really working for me!

Cheers,
Vickie Girolami
